Yaupon Brothers Organic Teas
Yaupon Brothers American Teas are a true labor of love. Each leaf is hand-plucked, carefully dried or fire-roasted, graded and milled, and hand-packed. They don't outsource any aspect of production, because they won't compromise on quality. Quality combines with nature's special touch in East Central Florida, where Yaupon trees are ancient and very special.
Their regenerative agriculture model focuses on Yaupon Holly as a sustainable native crop. Native plants require fewer inputs, like pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides. Fewer inputs means less pollution in our soil and in our waterways. Their wild-crop operations harvest Yaupon in sustainable amounts that preserves the health of the trees, and they destroy invasive plant species like the Brazilian Pepper in our wild-crop areas. All Yaupon Brothers growing and processing operations are certified organic.
Folks here's a quick rundown of the basics:
Caffeine & Other Stimulants: Yaupon contains three primary stimulants; caffeine, theobromine, and theophylline. Yaupon's stimulants are methylxanthine alkaloids. Yaupon Brothers caffeine content is variable, but normally around 7000mg/kg when dry, which is about 200mg per ounce. Typically, a brewed cup of Yaupon contains around 60mg of caffeine, about 1/3 less than coffee.
Other Cool Things To Know: Unlike regular tea, (camellia sinensis), Yaupon contains little to no tannin. This means that Yaupon is far less bitter than other tea, and won't over-steep. Yaupon also contains no oxalates, which are known to lead to kidney stones in some people.
Because Yaupon is not imported, it has a low carbon footprint. Yaupon Brothers Tea is unique among herbal beverages. Like its cousin, the Yerba Mate, Yaupon has impressive antioxidant properties and a 'jitter-free' caffeine quality, which is noticeably smoother and more ethereal than Arabica coffee or teas from the genus Camellia. Lucky for you, Yaupon Tea is grown and packaged right here in the United States, actually just around the corner from the Southern Homebrew store location...An American native tea; who knew!
We hope you'll become a life-long Yaupon drinker. It's the tea from here... American roots, a different leaf, a better tea hands down!
